AA Murder- they met in AA – he stabs her says he was never able to stay sober – AA Fails
STAUNTON – A man who plunged a butcher knife into the chest and back of his estranged wife during an attack last year was sentenced to 21 years in prison Thursday in Augusta County Circuit Court.
In March, William J. Boxler, 59, of Waynesboro, pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated malicious wounding, violating a protective order, and breaking and entering.
The attack took place April 10, 2018, in the 800 block of Balsley Road just outside of Staunton. Boxler flipped a sport utility vehicle after fleeing the scene and was captured by authorities.
In court Thursday, Boxler testified he was on a six-day drinking binge when the stabbing took place. Boxler also said he’s attempted suicide five times and claimed he has heard voices since childhood. However, Augusta County Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Alexandra Meador said his claim of hearing voices was never documented until after his arrest.
Boxler said he initially met Robin Stedman, who would later become his wife, at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. Boxler said he’d been sober for about 90 days at the time, but testified that within a month he was drinking again.
