AA fails again. Two Moms in Head on Collision in Drunk Driving Accident

So many like to poke blame at Moderation Management and how its founder  Audrey Kushline killed others in her accident – but on a very regular  basis ( if not daily )  – current AA member or attendees also do the same at a much higher percentage , yet still AA keeps its Gold Standard of a ” great program” .

But is it?

If numbers were to be kept and they are – All DUI’s and DWI ‘s are recorded in the US for drunk driving fatalities  and all of them are court ordered to go to AA even in the first offense – I  say – how is it that any good . How is telling people they are powerless – or to “pray the gay away” will work for a troubled drinker  who still drinks and drives and inevitably kills another and themselves.  Isn’t it  time science and programs like SMART RECOVERY, LifeRING, Moderation Management, Harm Reduction or Darhma Recovery take over the standard  of care – also with Medicine ( Naltrexone ) and therapy  CBT,  MI and honestly just getting us away from a very dangerous idea that a self help support group from the 1930’s developed by a loser Stock broker drunk, filled with religious ideology is used in 98 % of all treatment in the United States.

That our courts and probation require attendance for any DUI and even other charges – like domestic violence.

AA has become like sliced bread and is used in memes , one liners in children’s cartoons , ” Wreck it Ralph”, TV shows made with this premise at its core ” MOM” on CBS. Stars drop buzz words and post pics of their AA sobriety chip on INSTAGRAM – Charlie Sheen did after returning to AA and sobriety.

But is this phase of AA being so great finally at its peak  and now falling quickly to low numbers? We think so. With the Opioid problem ( AA was never welcome to heroin users – …ever !!!! and many deaths are occurring. People are finally asking questions and saying ” what really goes on in those meetings. Are AA meetings run by a therapist , a trained leader?

There are dozens of Anti AA critical groups on FACEBOOK now as well as youtuber’s who hate on the program like a bad min cult . But if hundreds die from Drunk Driving Accidents every year and AA is the go to  still… doesn’t that show what a crappy job its doing to help people who suffer from alcohol over use ?

We think so.
